Contextual Agentic
A team working on how organisations give AI agents authority over real work without losing control of it.
Still learning. Still building. Still questioning assumptions.
What Contextual Agentic is
Contextual Agentic (CA) is an approach to building AI agents that work inside the context of a real enterprise. An agent is useful in an organisation only when it understands the data it is allowed to use, the rules it must follow, the systems it can act on and the people who remain accountable for what it does. CA puts that context, and the limits on an agent’s authority, at the centre of the design rather than adding them afterwards.
In practice that means architecture patterns, controls and evidence: what an agent may decide, what must stay deterministic, who approves an action that cannot be undone, and how anyone can later check what happened and why.
Why it matters
Models can reason, write software, use tools and take part in workflows that used to need a person at every step. The distance between an impressive demonstration and a system an organisation can responsibly depend on has not closed at the same rate. That gap is the work.
One question sits behind all of it:
How do we get the benefit of increasingly capable AI systems while people keep meaningful control of authority, evidence and outcomes?
It is not a purely technical question. It reaches into architecture, security, identity, data, operating models, economics, governance and organisational design, and ends in human judgement.
What happens after the demo
AI makes it easy to build something impressive and no easier to make it dependable. A prototype that works beautifully under demonstration conditions still meets incomplete context, changing data, ambiguous instructions, unreliable tools, security boundaries, cost ceilings and people behaving in ways nobody modelled.
So the questions worth answering are the ones that come after the demonstration. How do you know the system is working, and how do you evaluate it? What evidence should it produce? What authority should an agent hold, and what must stay deterministic? How do identity and permissions work when software acts on someone’s behalf? And does the value justify the complexity?
Those are architecture questions. They are also organisational ones, which is why neither discipline answers them well alone.
The team
Contextual Agentic is developed by a team working across enterprise architecture, AI solutions and engineering. We build as well as write. Staying close enough to read the code, test an idea and see where it actually breaks is part of the work. AI has made that loop much faster, but faster construction does not remove engineering discipline; it raises the premium on it. Code becomes cheap while understanding, judgement and accountability stay expensive.
What we publish
Our work became The Contextual Agentic Enterprise: what changes when enterprise systems move beyond passive records towards systems whose agents interpret context, reason, use tools and take part in real organisational processes. The interest is not in replacing people with autonomous software. It is in how people and capable systems work together with clear boundaries around authority, responsibility, evidence and control.
This site carries the rest: architecture patterns, technical experiments, working code, the economics, and what breaks in practice. Some of it is deeply technical; some is about strategy, governance and the changing role of technology professionals. All of it is meant to be grounded in evidence and real engineering constraints rather than in AI hype, and all of it is provisional. When better evidence turns up, the thinking should change with it.
